Week of December 10-14

On Monday and Tuesday, some (but not all) class time for groups to practice their Fabella skits.
On Wednesday, we will celebrate Horace's birthday with Dr. Malone's class. Meet in the MS Atrium.

Fabella Presentations on Thursday/Friday:
All groups should be ready to present their Fabella at the beginning of class on Thursday (Pd 1) and Friday (Pd 2). Bring in props, costume additions, and note cards for lines (if necessary) on Tuesday and Wednesday.
*Each student will be graded based on the following rubric:
  • Individual participation points (50 total):
    • Pronunciation (20)
    • Contribution to group (15)
    • Enthusiasm (15)

Introduction of Fābella: To the Fish Stall

Be able to translate it comfortably on Thursday.

No written homework. Study vocabulary English to Latin for 10-15 minutes.

Review the declensions at the top of the page first. Don't worry about the section with missing endings. Label the English sentences before translating.
Optional test preparation: On the blank page opposite to p. 18, decline: "the anxious son" & "the angry daughter" (nominative, genitive, accusative, ablative).

  1. Do Exercise 1.3 on Oxford p. 109. Write out the Latin sentence replacing the English word in parenthesis with the correct Latin translation. Then, write the English translation of the full sentence. Make sure to use good English.
  2. Write out VERB CHARTS (all 6 forms- I, you, he/she/it, we, you all, they) of these verbs:
    1. Pd 1 ceno, ambulo, and intro
    2. Pd 2 do the verbs I put on the board in class. If you can't remember, do the three listed above.
  3. If you have extra time, study your Chapter 1 vocabulary cards from Latin to English (10 minutes).

HW due Thurs 9/6 (Pd 1) & Fri 9/7 (Pd 2)

  1. In your orange Oxford book, read the Quintus story (pp. 11-12).
  2. Answer the questions on the homework sheet handed out in class. Remember to read the questions before reading the story.

Back to school...

Welcome to Latin 7!

This year, we'll learn the basics of the Latin language and a little about the culture of Ancient Rome, too. You should bookmark this site and check it frequently for homework assignments, helpful links, and other important information.

What you'll need for class:
-Latin binder with labeled dividers (handed out on first day of class)
-lots of blank note cards for vocabulary words
-blank notebook paper
-orange Oxford textbook
-yellow ETC workbook
-an open mind and interest for learning a new language and its culture

Homework due Thursday, August 30th
  1. Write thoughtful answers to the questions on the homework sheet handed out in class.
  2. Read the Introduction, Oxford pp. 5-6. Stop before the section called Consonants.
  3. Thought exercise: (You may make notes if you want. We will talk about this in class tomorrow.) Imagine an ancient classroom versus a classroom today.
  • What differences might there be between the two?
  • What would you like our classroom environment to be like?
  • What expectations do you have of the students? Of your teacher?
* Remember to bring your flash cards and all your books LABELED with your name as shown in class. Don't forget to add blank notebook paper.

* Also remember to read the Course Expectations with your parent or guardian and turn in the signed signature page.
